Default IT Geek in NZ

Hi Guys
This is my first post and I was enquiring as to the best location for IT's geeks to
work in NZ.

I would prefer the North Island just for the weather but i obviously have to go where the work is.

My initial thoughts where Auckland but I am not really a city boy more of a surburbanite.

PS.. i luv diving so it would be a real treat if there were some good dive sites not too far away.

I'm an ex-nzer IT nerd. Auckland has the biggest range of IT jobs, however there is currently a toss-up between Auckland and Wellington for best wages for IT workers and Wellington is known to be a great place for newcomers to start in.

As far as Auckland goes, there are places like Takapuna which are just outside the city that have companies like telstraclear who should be looking for good IT workers.

You also have a lot of companies in Albany, including 1 of the larger isps which I believe is orcon.

Hopefully that helps abit

why not find an IT agency online to take you on for interviews, they can always rehash your cv like they did my husbands (although he fixes trains!). if you don't fancy auckland, consider living one hour from wellington and take the train in. kapiti coast is lovely! you can get yourself a four bedroom quarter acre plot for $400,000 in waikanae although where we are houses are more rarer for sale in raumati beach but only 15 minutes drive from waikanae. bearing in mind, if you want to get the train up to welly, you would be better living in paraparaumu. hope this helps!

Hi Guys
I have checked out Albany and I must say that from a work perspective it does seem to hit the spot as there are several IT companies based there and the commute would be going in the oposite direction to the city traffic which is a bonus.

Hi Loopylinda
I am not too fussed about the area as long as its not slap band in teh middle of a city obviously and meets the following:
1:\ A v good school for the sprogling.
2:\ A decent amount of IT based job's
3:\ The beach not too far away.
