yes, your kids can go to school. me and my husband both have work to residence visas and kids have visas to be students. we are not waiting two years to apply for permanent residency as we have already got an expression of interest going through but opted to go for work to residence at last minute because it was quicker. whereabouts you thinking of basing yourselves? we are on kapiti coast! moved here 18/12/07 and kids love their school.

Hi there
Well a lot depends, have you been to New Zealand before at all? You can't possibly sell up until you visit I say and come and see for yourself what it is like.
What age are your kids? I say this because if they are in their later teenage years, they might find it hard to settle compared to if your kids are younger like ours are, aged 7 and 10.
Secondly, Kiwis in our experience of living amongst them for the past 3-4 months, are laid back people and in our personal experience, my Husband had a telephone interview with an Agency before having a telephone interview with the company and then another with two members of the company again before being offered employment then we visited for 2-3 weeks with us all in tow so we all check out this place.
I would not consider moving to the other side of the world without at least checking out the place. I think that most companies would not expect anybody to come out to NZ from abroad unless they had a good chance of getting the job. So where has it been left? Are they interested in him or not?
Who is this girl who says you Husband would easily get a job here in NZ? Is she an Agency personnel person? We kept clear of Agencies and did all the paperwork ourselves, I ain't gonna pay somebody £4000 upwards for something I can do myself although the paperwork was mighty confusing. What sort of manufacturing is your Husband in? What exactly is it that he does?
You have to ask yourself what reasons you want to live in NZ are?
Although we live down South of the North Island 45 minutes from Wellington on the Kapiti Coast, if you need me to find out any information for you from here, just ask!
Hope to hear from you soon!
Linda.

Default face to face interviews

Just a thought but the Agency my Husband used based in Wellington had an Agency they used in UK to take a small 2 min. video of my Husband that was sent out to potential employers. This way the company get to see the person applying in animation so they see what they are getting (kind of) and I think that this is a good thing because nobody can be expected just to fly off around the world on the maybe there is a possibility that you can have the job type of scenario.
Where did you find the job that your Husband went for?
Linda.

Hi Linda thanks for getting back to me regarding all the points you have made.
First we have never been to NZ before but cousins stay in both Wellington and Auckland and have done for over 40 yrs, the family photos of years of living there show us what a lovely place it is and can only go by what they say about the outdoor life and layed back life style. to be honest if we could afford to go over for a holiday we would but if we go it will be for good.
The kids are Dean-19 yrs he is in Army so will not be coming with us ,Conner-11yrs just starting high school this summer and Emma who is 9 yrs and the Double Surprize!!!,lol twins Jade & Robbie who will be 3 yrs on 17th this month. I feel the are all still young enough to adapt maybe the 11 yr old will find it the hardest? They are the main reason for our move from Scotland and UK in the Whole , we want whats best for them regarding having a safe yob free enviroment with better climate and outdoor sports etc many other factors whick you will have heard before ... but im sure you get the drift....
The company I applied to through Seek Recruitment was called Fletcher Building company it was Recruitment Consultant from that company who called wanting to Scott my hubby she said the company was interested in him working for them they were doorway which do timber door manufacturing as hubby is Supervisor in Productiion/manufacturing velux roof windows at present in UK, so she said his skills as Supervisor wouldnt be a problem to get a job through Fletchers as they were a big company, she said she would see manager about telephone interview at doorways then said thet he wanted to see scott face to face and if he got working visa then to go see them when we get over in NZ.
BUt we have been looking at getting working visa/permit and im sure we need to have a job offer? so i am confused? or is it work to residence visa?
It sound lovely where you stay i had chosen Bay of Plenty, but i think it will depend on where we get a job this job is in Auckland near Mt nearer south end prob be still to busy for us as we would like quiter area but it would be a start will have to wait to see what happens.
speek to you soon julie ;-)

Hi Julie,
Just a thought but when we applied for work to residence visas for Andy, me and scholar ones for the kids, the company that Andy worked for had to be affiliated and I get the feeling that this is the situation for all jobs gotten through New Zealand. Can you ask the company if they are an affiliated company?
As for concerns about your 11 year old, I think going by my 10 year old he is loving it with a capital L and this is our child who has Aspergers Syndrome, high functioning autism! He was devestated to leave his friends, he was miserable to begin with (for all of a week!) but now he is living a totally different life and even joined Tae Kwondo today .... never would have been done in the UK .... and he played hockey, touch rugby, did hurdles at Westpac Stadium today in Wellington (like Wembley Stadium but looks like a big metal cake tin ha ha) and anyway .... sorry to ramble on here.
Also, how long would the company be willing to wait for you and can your Husband not just arrange to have an interview, say, over the web using webcam?
We had to get a certificate of accreditation to go with our paperwork for NZ Immigration. Hope this helps.
Linda.
