Remember that if you have paid National Insurance for less than 9 years, women, or 11 years, men, you will get no pention atall from the UK when you retire. You can, however buy extra years to bring you up to these levels. At 9 and 11 years of payments completed you will be entitled to 25% of the full pension on reaching retirement age, however it will be frozen at that rate for the rest of your life if you are moving to most of the Commonwealth countries, including Australia, Canada, South Africa, New Zealand, and a lot more..
You will be OK in Europe and the USA and a few more.
Search for Pension Parity on Google for more information.
The whole subject of the fight by UK Pensioners for Parity, and their appeal to the European Court of Human Rights heard on September 2nd this year, is covered by the Internet, again searcch Google. The ECHR is expected to bring down its judgement about March 2010.
Take Care.
I thought this was quite an important post that might get lost because of the original title - so I've started a new one...

Smile nz is expensive

Hiya,

We sold so much of our stuff when we left the uk...big mistake. NZ is expensive because it is an island and most stuff is imported, also there just isnt the choice of stuff to by that there is in the uk so anything 'foreign' is to be envied.

We love living here and i wake up everyday and am so glad we did it. Quality of live is awesome and whilst you dont come to nz for the shopping, the lifestyle is second to non....plus no bitey animals to nip at you unlike oz.

Mobiles you have to buy here as they are 'locked' and so difficult if not illegal (!) to unlock. Expensive and they dont have many deals, you know like you get the phone for free if you sign up etc.

It is the best and easiest thing we ever did moving here . we live in devonport on the north shore in auckland as it was the first place we found some short term rental accommodation that was more like home than living in a hotel! we stayed there for 3 months before we found a longer term rental, still in devonport as it is gorgeous.

gosh i've gone on a bit but hope that it helps.

good luck and get here quick before they may immigration even harder!

We have just found out that mobile phones are expensive. Is this right?
Also, we were wondering whether or not to bring our suite and bedroom furniture as it is only one year old and we will never get what it is worth back.
Any advice is much appreciated.
