Hi Marty,
that sounds not too bad, with the world cup rugby and some other building still going on.
it's so bad here in dublin/ireland and not getting better, you know it for sure from your friends/family, it's such a pity for the nice country and the people.
I don't want to leave at all, but what can somebody do without a job in longterm prospect than look for alternatives...and I understand completely the restrictions for foreigners to work in NZ or Aussi-land, that they protect their own people, otherwise the country would be flooded
but it's still good to have a chance and there might be an employer who needs exactly my skills...who knows... and if not I have a great holiday and brought some money in the country...think it's worth a try...

Ya I know all about how bad things are at home, this place is fantastic to live in, but the wages are a big drop in what the Irish wages are, although with most companies in Ireland making staff take 10% and more pay cuts then it gets closer to the wages paid here.
I have been looking into jobs in Oz too to see if that's getting any better before I move home so I can visit it too while I'm in this part of the world, and to my surprise there were hundreds of jobs for architects, and cad technicians, etc, now whether these jobs are jobs that have thousands of applicants I don't know, but it might be worth looking there too if things don't look too promising in NZ for you. Wherever you choose, be ready for some serious sunshine, its just finished winter here and we had about 25degrees Celsius at the weekend. I've also only seen 3 days of rain since I arrived in Christchurch in June. Big difference from home!

yes, auckland is probably the busiest region, but wouldn't mind to go everywhere else.
I'm asking myself at the moment hows the best way to book a flight. did you book it at a travel office or on the internet? I checked travelfinder in dawson street(dublin) a year ago or so for australia and they were very expensive.
I intend to book it on the internet but on the other hand am a little bit afraid, I don't want to get stranded in Singapore airport or so cause I underestimated time for flight changes for example. Did you book your flight on the internet?maybe I worry too much but never booked an oversea flight....

Hi Hilli,
Sorry I never saw your reply until now!
Yes I booked my flights online, I booked one flight to London with Aer Lingus, then booked a ticket through Quantas to NZ, flew to Bankhok, then Sydney, then Wellington. Booked a hostel at the same time as my flights so I would have somewhere to stay immediately. It workedout about 500euro cheaper than booking a flight from Ireland to NZ. I was getting charged over 500euro to fly from Dublin to London, whereas I actually paid less than 100euro from Cork to London to link up with the Quantas flight.
Leave yourself about 4 hours between when you land at London and the departure time of your flight to NZ, that way you're not rushing. Once I checked in in Cork the Aer Lingus staff booked my tickets through for the Quantas flight too so I got all my tickets at once and didnt have to queue up in London or any other airport. Thats was great!
