Default Work vs study

Looking to see if anyone can give advice on taking up a course when in NZ. My partner and I are awaiting response from our permenant residence application prior to looking for job offer. He's a nurse and I have prison experience but am hoping to change career course once we get there. How easy is it to get on college/Uni courses after arriving? Any advice/experience in this area would be appreciated.

if you want to study here in NZ you have to get an institution (school, university) to sponsor or enroll in it, it could be a diploma, certificate level, bachelors or postgraduate/masters. Most of what I've known here are nurses with student visa and in that way also who ever is entitled for the visa can bring his/her wife.
goodluck.
