Default Carpentry work in NZ ???

Hi everyone, I'm a newbie to this forum (any forum really), I have just recently returned my ITA to NZ house, so am waiting for a reply. I am a qualified Carpenter with 8 years experience with site and domestic work . I'm hoping someone could give me a heads up to the current situation for work, is it available ? are jobs word of mouth ? where is best to locate ? My partner and I are hoping to be in NZ by August so any help would be greatly appreciated. Fingers crossed .

No words of wisdom sorry, but just to say we're in the same position as yourselves. ITA to be posted back tomorrow, hubby is a carpenter of 20 years and we want to be out there by Christmas. If I find out anything of interest I'll let u know and if u could do the same would appreciate it.

Hi there
We have been here in Christchurch for 11 years and my husband is also a carpenter/joiner. At the moment he works as a contract supervisor for a joinery firm but unfortunately there have been some job losses in the construction industry. His firm laid around 14 off and have all gone to a shorter working week. I don't want to sound grim but the recession has hit NZ, probably not to the same extent as the UK but there does seem to be fewer jobs out there at the moment. Hopefully by the time you arrive things will be looking up, Good Luck

Unfortunately it seems to be at the moment, all construction and trades have been affected. My husband knows quite a few builders through his job and he said they have been laying off too
