Default Dont have birth certificates

hi guys We are a family of three ,my hubby has got a job in NZ. He will be getting a work permit, we will be applying for PR after 3 months. We will be eligible to claim 150 points in the EOI. Now we have a problem, we are from india ,and we dont have birth certs, it was not mandatory to register births before 1970. My husband was born in 1954 and me in 1959. The local authorities have refused to give us any help. It is almost impossible to get a cert without acourt order. Both of us dont have any relatives to sign affidivits etc. Our only hope is that INZ will accept the birth certs that we can get from the Indian embassy in Wellington. can anyone tell us if this is ok.Also, are there any other Indian families in NZ who have had this problem? thanks!

A difficult one....

My uncle had a similar problem, when he came over to the UK from Egypt as a child in the 1950s. He was on his fathers passport, the British Embassy in Cairo had been burned down (with his birth certificate in it!) and when his father died his mother threw the passport away!

So with no proof of where he was born, he couldn't get a passport. A bit of a catch 22! In the end my Aunt sandwiched his application (minus birth certificate) between hers and the kids, and sent it off with fingers crossed. Two weeks later - bingo! One passport!

Not sure it would work in your case, but it might be worth explaining your predicament to NZ Immigration. Do you have other proof of who you are, where you were born, etc? I don't know your religion, but my uncle found a baptism certificate that helped too.
