Default Power outage

HI... we lost power in Pafos this morning. Wondered if anyone else was affected, if it was a scheduled or emergency outage, how often this might happen, and any other info about the likelihood of it happening again. Cheers

I understand that Peyia was having power off last Sunday, 5am until 5pm, but it never happened, it was set to happen today, but not sure if it has.

It was to repair power lines struck by lightening. They were notified it would happen, but not that it hadn't so all day they were expecting it to go off any minute....or so I was told.

Hi there

So, you are also in Pafos -- did you lose power?

Helen

No, for once I was ok, it went off twice last week though, but only for a short while.

I was pre warned about the power cuts before I moved over so invested in an LED camping lantern from Argos, well worth the money.

You should try living in Mandria, the power goes off here every few days. My little boy (3 year old) was sat in the dark with his mum for 2 hours crying which is one of the many reasons I will be moving to Limassol at the end of March.

We very rarely lose our power here in Konia. Even after the explosion when people were getting regular power cuts we never had a single one.
We have a theory that the reason is because we are close to the General hospital so perhaps we are on the same main line and they can't cut it off because of the hospital.

That is why I am surprised at Mandria having problems, I would have thought being so near to the airport they would be on the same circuit.

The galling thing is the amount we are paying for electricity, and it's set to rise with the added 2% of VAT.

We don't get value for money as it is.

Thats good to know, I'm moving to Mandria in March so I may just invest in one or two of those lamps Geraldines mentioned before I come over!
Is it really as often as every few days Clive?

In the first 10 days I got over here, I had 4 power cuts...that I knew about! I am at work all day and sometimes I come home and the only way I know the power has been off is the clock on the cooker has reset and is flashing 12:00.

To be fair it hasn't been quite that often since and as march comes around the nights will get lighter. Its still a problem if like me you come home and want to cook and the power's off. This happened a couple of times so we headed off in to Paphos to eat.

My work collegues live in Nicosia and Limassol and they say they haven't had power outages for over a year, just seems to be Mandria.

I have just heard on the radio that Cyprus has the highest electricity charges in Europe and that, quite rightly, has caused a public outcry, there is also petition being launched to object to the rising cost.....point me in that direction.
