Default Help please

Hello. I am a student nurse in Marquette, MI. Our teacher wants us to do an interview with someone from a different culture in order to learn about their health care practices. I realize this isn't a typical posting for this forum, but I don't know where else to go.
The list of questions is pretty long, but only a few from each section need to be answered. Your help is really appreciated.

Here are the questions:

Cultural affiliation
How do you identify yourself? (I am a /an …)
What is your ethnic and / or racial background?
How much do you identify with your cultural /racial or diversity group?
How long have you and your family been residents in this country?
Where did you live before coming here?
Where were you born?

Health care beliefs and practices
How do you know when you are healthy?
What do you and others do to stay healthy? (i.e. Any use of foods, herbs, other remedies?)
What types of food do you eat?
Do certain foods help to keep you healthy?
Who prepares your food?
How is it cooked?
When are your meals scheduled?
Who eats together?
What have you eaten in the past day?
How do you celebrate special life events (such as a birth, reaching maturity, a marriage, or aging)?
Does anyone special care for the person going through these processes?

Illness beliefs and customs
What causes a person to become ill?
When someone is ill, what does he or she do to get better?
Who do they go to for help? When?
How does a person decide they need to go to a health center or hospital?

Communication & Interpersonal relations
What languages can you understand, speak and read?
Which one did you speak in the home growing up?
If your or a relative needed an interpreter to communicate with a health care provider, who you would want to interpret for you (family member, friend, professional interpreter or health care provider)
In your culture, how do people express feelings and emotions about each other?
What does the word care mean to you?

Please think about a small gathering of people in your culture:
Could you describe how they communicate with each other?
Are they all talking at once or in turn?
Are voices loud or soft?
Are there periods of silence?
Do only certain people talk?
Who generally talks and who listens?
Do they all remain together in the same room or do they divide up?
How close do they get to each other?
Do they touch?
What do they do with their hands as they talk?
Other than using words how else do they communicate?
Are conversations about things or activities?
Are they about feelings?
What topics are generally not talked about with strangers?
Or care providers?
How do men and women meet members outside the family they grew up in?
How do they find someone to marry?
Who is acceptable?
Are there culturally defined expectations about male-female relationships?
Are their any special ceremonies or problems regarding expression of sexuality?
How do men and women express modesty?
Are there any restrictions related to sexuality or exposure of body parts or certain types of surgery (e.g. amputations, vasectomy, hysterectomy, organ transplants)?

Social Family Structure
How do you define a family?
Are there specific duties for the men, women and children?
Who is considered the family’s decision maker?
Who cares for the children?
Who disciplines the children and how is this usually done?
What is the cultural perception of aging?
How are older people treated in your culture?

Spiritual practices
What is your religious affiliation?
What religious beliefs and practices influence your everyday life?
What are the duties of men and women in your religion and place of worship?
Do your beliefs and practiced different from others in your cultural group? How?
When someone dies, what customs does your religion or groups follow?
What do you believe happens to a person after death?
What is the most appropriate way for someone to express his or her feelings to the family of the dead person?

World view and other social structures

What is the role you play in the world around you?
Why is it important that you are a part of this world?
What is the most important aspect of your life?
How does your culture / group view time?
Would you say that there is an more emphasis on the past, present or future?
Is clock time (punctuality) used and important?
What types of jobs have you held?
What types of jobs have other family members held?
How has the presence or lack of money influenced your life?
Describe the educational experiences that you have had.

Conclusions
Have you ever lived in the United States?
if so:
What have youfound to be the most disturbing about living here?
What have you found most helpful?

“What else do I need to know or understand to help you or your group?

Thank you so much for your help.

Welcome to the forum, but I'm not sure this is a good place for you to get responses for your survey. The people who post in the Mexico forum are not Mexican, but people from other countries who live in Mexico. A majority of them are American or Canadian, so your questions really won't get you much insight into another culture.

Default Thanks

Thanks for replying. It's okay if no one replies. I have some back-up plans. I just thought it would be nice to have a source that actually lives in another culture, rather than someone who has lived here for a while and has become acculturated to the United States.
I wish you all well.
