Default Driving to Ajijic

We plan our first drive from the west coast of Canada to Ajijic. We want to take the shortest and easiest route. Any suggestions where we should cross the border into mexico? Anyone knows the exact route to travel to have the least amount of border troubles? How about from the US border to Ajijic? Thanks.

I think Ajijic is near Guadalajara, which would make it about a 24 hour drive from the US border.

From Seattle I either take I-5 or go thru Salt Lake but weather might determine your route. I always use the Nogales crossing (truck route) and you are on Mexico hyway 15 all the way to Guadalajara

It's an easy three day or long two day drive from Nogales. We stopped for the night in Cuidad Obregon and Mazatlan. Cross the border early in the morning to avoid delays at customs, immigration, and getting your car permit

Thanks for the advise. What about car insurance? Where do I buy it? Any recommendations.

Google MexicoBob, Bob Acosta at San Xavier Insurance in Tucson and Nogales - you can buy your insurance before you leave home. If you are coming for more than a couple of weeks, a one year policy will probably be your cheapest option.
