maybe off-topic but i too am considering the lake chapala area and have gone to google earth to zoom in, get an idea of the layout, even street maps

thank you for the book recommendation. i sent the author my check three weeks ago and no response yet.
i lived in mexico for two years 14 years ago and loved it. one year in my popup trailer on a beach in baja and a year in cuastecomate near melaque, jalisco. i have to sell my small farm before moving south and this slump does not help. richard

I think you might try to look at other places I was in the area a couple of months ago Lake Chapla, and didn't even hear Spanish this isn't living in Mexico it is living at home in the States or Canada. Try Queretaro it is a lovely colonial city and still Mexican.
