Default Leaving a car in Mexico

I am planning to drive a car to Oaxaca and leave it there with a friend. I understand that typically, you get a temporary import license at the border to bring a car into Mexico for 6 months. I am not planning on bringing the car back out of Mexico so I won't be able to get the temporary license cleared when I leave the country (fly out). I also understand that if you don't get your temporary import license cleared when you leave the county you can have problem the next time you try to get back into Mexico. Has anyone ever left a car in Mexico? Do you all know of any alternatives?

Thanks for the help!

Welcome to the forum DJ. I've seen similar threads, but none exactly like this one. I'm sort of looking forward to seeing what advice members offer, myself.

Flying back in as a tourist should not be a problem. I would not plan on ever getting an FM3 visa ... and never bring another car in.

You leave lots of info on the computers when you import a car ... including your Credit Card

You may have problems if pulled over in the future as the sticker is only good 6 months unless you have your FM3. They will either take your car or your money.
