With over a million expats in Mexico I think we should also have a Mexico forum.

I've lived in Mexico for 6 years now and it's rapidily becomming one of the largest expat areas.

I second the idea of setting up a Mexico expat forum, even though there already are quite a few such as chapala.com, merida.com, manzanillo.com etc.

Ashley, great idea. Mexico has always been a destination country. Look forward to comments about different areas of preference in Mexico.

I too, wish they had a Mexico Forum. There are lots of expats in the Lake Chapala area of Mexico.

Great...we have a new forum. There are so many different areas in Mexico for expats...this should be exciting.

I would love to hear from people in other areas of Mexico and to know what they like and don't like about the areas they chose.

Ajijic is nice but it's getting really crowded. But it does have the best weather. I say this as I sit here in 95 degree heat and don't even need an air-conditioner.

Default A refreshing new site

I'm glad to see this new site develop. Some of the others have deteriorated into local '***** boards' instead of being helpful to folks who might want to join us south of the border, "SoB", as you will see it called, so please don't think the poster is swearing at you. For those of you NoB, please feel free to pick our brains but try to make your questions as specific as possible. Bienvenidos a todos.

Default Not a problem here.

Hello London,
You will be happy to discover that there are several 'Brits' retired here at Lake Chapala. Some did it the hard way; via Canada or the USA, but there are enough here to support a club of sorts. In the summer, most expats here are Americans but in the winter all of Toronto seems to arrive enmasse and they outnumber us. Nevertheless, we also count among our friends folks from Austria, Germany, Costa Rica, Argentina and others in this polyglot group. It is always fun to note that a few folks from Florida and Hawaii have given up those locations to move to 'Lakeside'.

It is good to see RVGringo on this forum. He is one of the most informed, informative, and level-headed members of a couple of other Mexican forums emanating from the north shore of Lake Chapala. We are neighbors here, though we plan to build a home on the Costa Alegre and rent here for 5 or 6 months a year during the "off season." We love Mexico, Lake Chapala and the beach, so we are going for it all after two years of renting next door to Ajijic in San Antonio Tlyacapan. Don't ask where we want to buy land; we won't say. Salud, El Toro Furioso

Floridians leave in the summer to escape the heat. Many retirees move to Florida for the warmth, but discover that temperatures around 95F (35C) for four or five or even six months a year is draining, even in a nearly totally air-conditioned world. It's good for areas that are high enough to have cooler weather in the summer for the southerners, but far enough south to have good weather in the winter for those from cold country.
