Well, I sure hope that by now you're recouperating. My Dad used to tell me that getting old "was not for sissies!" I made it here to Puerto Aventuras, Quintana Roo where I'm content and will probably die here since it's just too expensive to keep moving around with a piano in tow. "Such is life in the tropics!" Be well, friend.....STEVE

Yes, I just viewed photos of TAPALPA...looks charming! How far from Chapala? SouthWest of Chapala? I hope you're getting lucky selling the house. I'll be moving to Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo in December. And you're right: My Dad always told me NOT to grow old; I shudda listened to him!

Thanks for your valuable comment on my upcoming move. By the way, around 1985 we lived for awhile in Ajijic and dined on 'charales.' There were fears about Rio Lerma diverting the aquifer and Lake Chapala drying up. Was that all negative hype? We also visited a Swiss-Bavarian type village called Mazamitla. I adored that place. Have you been there lately?

    RVGRINGO,
I could not get my computer to actually post at the regular site.......sorry......but we "talked" before and I have another question --- have you ever heard of a group called FocusOnMexico? My husband found it and thinks it might be a good thing to do --- they advertise a program of "talks" by experts on different aspects of living in Mexico, all wrapped in a $1,700 per person 8 day touring package........I wonder if these are just real estate people or if it's actually a legit operation that is very helpful to people wanting to move to Mexico.............any info would help. Thanks so much. sherrylh

The Mexican border is fluid. You need neither visa, nor import permit for your car. Hand in your sticker. Then turn around and show your car to Mexican dealers who will be probably pay you the same or more as the US dealers., and in cash. They will pick up your car on the US side.

If my memory serves, I think it was because it contained an unsolicited link. We try to avoid that.

You mean the guy moving to Juarez? I believe what i said was just move into one of the vacant homes left by the people desperate to get out. How is that insulting the poster? It was just an illustrative way of warning that the city was very dangerous. I could back up with data the fact people are leaving in droves if you like.

Hi Paul, The amount of fear is amazing. We go about our lives and only note increased security on rare occasions. I am also curious to see what a reporter from Tucson will have to say. Fluency will help him read and interpret Spanish news, but his distance from Mexico, in the middle of an ultra-conservative racist leaning state might make objectivity difficult. All of Mexico is desperate to regain the tourist business, but it will be difficult to do with the northern 'propaganda machine' working to keep the travel dollars at home. The USA, Canada and even Britain are playing that game. Oh, oh! I feel a rant coming on, so I'll stop here.
    Regards,

HI, I had an interesting phone call today form a reporter in Tucson. I had written to the Sonora tourist board with some suggestions regarding tourist safety & they contacted him to get in touch with me. he has a lot of contacts in Mexico up to the political level. He has offered to act as a go between if anyone finds themselves in a problem dealing with authorities (he is fluent in Spanish). he has registered on the RV forum. It will be interesting to see what he has to say.

The Sonora tourist board is desperate to try & offset the bad publicity. The US State department has even manged to scare off Mexican nationals returning home for the Christmas season.

    RV,

I googled Network Marketing and Donald Trump. It looks like the activity that HiloRanch talks about is real. It looks to me like at worst it is a Ponzi scheme, at best it is a group making money selling franchises to people who will mostly never get their investment back. It is not clear why Donald Trump is lending his name to this effort.

The individual who posted it may be just one of the converted who really thinks it is a good deal, or they may have some scheme where people can make money by enrolling others, truly a Ponzi scheme if that is the case.

    Cheers,
    Memo

Yes, we've met Dan and Ann a few times, at various functions. However, we have a different circle of friends.

    Hi Mandy,
I did get a few e-mails that bounced on reply and I hoped that everyone would try another message route. Thanks for trying again.
All is well and we're still here, procrastinating about 'downsizing'. We've a steady stream of 'snowbirds' visiting through January, so we still haven't considered listing the house. Having three dogs also makes it difficult to decide what to do. Oh well, I've now lived here longer than anywhere else in my life, and it has become home. Tough decision! However, I still keep looking at newer used motor homes on the market, just in case.
    Regards,
    Bob
