Hi Canoeman. I'm still working out how to use the PM system. If you don't receive my PM let me know although and I'll send again when I have time to re-write it.

Hi Canoeman - I've made a visit to a local accountant who has provided some enlightning information if you'd like me to share it with you? Not through the public forum as it's not welcomed.

    Thanks for reply.
I have emailed hubby ( he is not good with paperwork !) and told him to phone lawyer as I am sure she told us we were exempt and was doing paperwork for us. In any case we have a friend in the village who has a good accountant who should be able to help with the exemption.
    Thanks again
    Regards

Hi Kim, it's not evading it:) it's getting your 3 year exemption, you should have applied for the exemption within 60 days of purchase, exemption is based on Residence, income and property value,

This is current Law in place since Dec 2011
you must be a Resident i.e property must be your main primary residence
you must earn less than 153,500€ pa
property value less than 125,00€ (this is the VPN value not the purchase price)

If you applied within the 60 days you shouldn't have a problem, it's making Financas understand you don't have an income but savings.
If you didn't apply within 60 days sorry but very much doubt it Finanacas aren't ones for being helpful or backdating applications

A local accountant should be able to help it might cost you between 50-100€ but certainly shouldn't be more, it's whether the 3 years exemption from IMI are worth it

    hi Canoeman
I am in UK at moment and hubby received a letter regarding house tax.
His interpretation of it is that his nif number has not been submitted for exemption of the tax.
So off he went to finances and they told him in order to be exempt he would have to prove we have no income.
Well we don't have any income ( we are living off savings )
We bought the house in aug last year and are permanent residents.
It appears we have a short time to sort this out.
Any ideas on how we can evade this tax ?
    Thanks
    Kim

hi canoeman wonder if i could pick your brains for some advice?
as i mentioned before we have concrete floors on all three levels and i was wondering if i could get away with tiling over existing floor tiles to save alot of time and effort?
my one and only concern about this would be the weight issue of extra tiles over the top of existing tiles, do you think it could be a problem?
many thanks if you could help me out here
