well it sounds like you all need to move ..... lol You all live in the wrong places - or need holidays in the right places - AND i just happen to know of a couple of holiday chalets available here ....

I've been down here in Corsica for the last 10 or so days and it's been breath-suckingly hot all the time. I left the Auvergne in grey and cloudy, but friends I've been speaking to tell me it's been around 29 deg for the past week or so - previously as dire and wet as it comes.

Bev, I agree, the years since the 2003 canicule have been fairly iffy, but, to be honest, I'd rather have the iffy than the -30 to +35 (or in 2003, -35 to +55) within not enough time to even turn around.

And anyway, I'm British. I'm supposed to moan about the weather - it's in our national genes

Where we lived in California the daytime high could be 105F and the overnight about 50F and we could get the same temperature swing by driving 15 miles to the coast. Now that's rapid

Cheers

Yes alright - it's not the worst of all possible worst places to be - 'speshly since the air conditioner and the fridge/freezer work eminently well (altho' having spent a fortune on heating through the winter it's somewhat galling to be paying a similar fortune for cooling now).

But I'm allowed to whizzle now and again, OK?

I'm always astonished by the human animal's limited range of temperature comfort. It's a matter of just a few degrees. Non-human animals seem more stoic, or maybe I'm just not observing closely enough.

My husband's comfort range used to be about 18-22, and mine about 22-25... but now he's on blood thinners, he feels the cold, and we're finally in sync. Who says clouds don't have silver linings?

As a dude who lived in the Seattle area for 19 years, I say this weather is a breathe of fresh air (ironically).

Even in Auvergne's past winter with minus 17 Deg C, can't match Seattle's gray and cold.

+29°c here in Chantepie - very heavy, muggy - all the words you could imagine. Chance of thunder this evening and during the night.

Given we just exchanged the Chicago weather to South of France weather, I won't complain. Even for the 35 + degrees.. Why? Because it is 100 degrees in Chicago with humidity level of like 70% where you go out and you feel like your head is in a plastic bag, choking.
Add to that the swings in temps that goes: 100 degrees, 100 degrees, storm, 65 degrees and then repeat. I LOVE LOVE LOVE knowing that it will be sunny blue skies for pretty much the next 2 months. And yes, we have A.C. so we use it. and close the shutters a bit.
And guess what in 3 months, I wont have to worry about winter boots and -30 temps for the next 6 months. YAY!
But having lived in Lille, Paris and London for most of my first 25 years, I will take cold sunny weather over grey cloudy warmer weather.
