H
Exactly.
Oklahoma City, Unabomber, School shootings all perpetrated by people with an axe to grind (real or imagined) and ready access to guns, ammunition and materials. So legislation is in place to prevent weapons access to known loonies but it appears the French police (among others) are not paying attention or enforcing the laws when they should be. I don't know how to fix that

Cheers

The issue is about gun safety and not gun possession or use.

But as nothing is done straight in France possession and use were made so difficult that it is now easier and probably cheaper to procure an "illegal" gun than a real one.

As said by others, it is how you use it and how you store it that makes it a weapon. You can do that with a stone or a car as well.

And when it was time to use it,as during foreign invasion or revolution, very few French did use it indeed. Either a sign of lack of courrage or a sign of superior pacific way of life, ready to accept. The French did even accept that their guns were made illegal overnight on the ground of protecting and safguarding life.

Allez les francais, on se reveille maintenant. C'est fini la sieste.

The title to this thread "TOO MANY GUNS IN FRANCE?" was not mine. I was responding to another thread about what to bring to France, and the decision to make a new thread with this title was taken by the moderators.

The initial issue was concern about the possibility of people moving to France wishing to bring with them arms that they are legally permitted to detain in their own countries. Maybe this wasn't the case but it coincided with events in Toulouse and obviously the gun too many I referred to was that held by the man shooting at people in Toulouse.

I live in France and it would be pretty presumptious of me to criticize the French way of life (hunting etc). This was not my intention. However I can regret that there are accidents or people who misuse their weapons with tragic results as other posts have indicated.
