Default We've moved!!!

Five days of hell but we are in, tired and happy. Our previous landlords currently refusing to return our deposit, no surprises there, our new loandlord can't do enough to help us. We've now moved 4 times in 5 years (twice in UK and twice in Spain) and unless we discover something rotten about this place we don't plan on doing it again for another 5 years. We now have a decent internet provider, the last one took our final months money and then cut us off!! This one provides a telephone with free calls to UK and Australia (well everywhere in Europe and most of the Western world) plus access to BBC iplayer and download speeds of around 6 mbps. We are very happy (at the moment!)

Well done and good luck in your new home!

We moved four times in Spain, including the first move out there and each time it was hell, each time we didnt get our deposit back and each time we swore "never again"

Glad you're happy and back with us

When we moved out of our last place I met with the landlord a month before we moved and told him we wouldn't be paying the last month's rent but he could keep the deposit. He said "fine". If he hadn't I would have done it anyway.

I know just how you feel!
After almost twenty-five years of living in one place we moved five times in three years....
We finally feel settled and have a decent, friendly (but odd) landlord.
I think the golden rule about deposits is not to pay the last month's rent. That was the advice given by our current landlord!
I'm interested in your internet provider....especially the access to BBC i-player and would like to know more..
If you're not allowed to advertise could youplease pm me?

You can get the iPlayer if you route through a proxy in the UK. There are a lot of freebies and a few you have to pay for. Quite a few of the freebies are probably too slow for iPlayer, but worth a deek.

I´ll send you a PM with a few links that I use

I really think the not paying the last month and using the deposit to cover it, is the done thing here in Spain. It certainly was when I rented, when OH rented, and is what my friends who are landlords do. Something to find out well before you move

¿Pago el último mes/ los últimos meses o usamos el deposito?
Shall I pay the last month/ the last months, or shall we use the deposit?

they'll say pay me & I'll give you the deposit back afterwards!!

it IS the done thing to not pay it - but not strictly legal apparently

the deposit is meant to be held in a seperate account & returned after any outstanding bills/damages are paid for

unfortunately I haven't yet met an agent/owner who doesn't manage to claim that the few scuff & scratch marks & the odd broken plate is going to eat up the entire deposit!!!

so yes, I'd always advise people to not pay the final month, too, sadly Just give a month notice & tell them to use the deposit to pay it

Our landlord went back home to Austria yesterday. I drove him to the Bus Station in Marbella to make sure he got on the airport bus so I knew for sure we wouldn't be seeing him for a while.
He is a good landlord in that he makes no difficulties over needed repairs and things like that - in fact we have 300 euros a month from the rent which we can spend as we like on gardening/pool maintenance and repairs and if more money is needed, we just have to let him know.
Problem is, we see too much of him when he is here, which is on the whole about a month a year spread out over three or four visits.
I don't mind but OH does.
This time he brought a girlfriend who spent most of the time aggressively drunk and sleeping it off or complaining about the heat. So he was bored and came to see us.
I find him amusing -he has invited me to be his guest in Austria - and he does ensure everything in the house is in order before he leaves.
But OH objects to him popping up in the garden when she is lying topless by the pool.

BTW Thrax, I didn't say anything before, but I hope you've found THE house now and that you won't be moving again in the near future.
Relax and enjoy your house that will soon grow into a home
