Well at the risk of repeating myself - from the anecdote on another thread - I have seen guns in possession of several ex-neighbours (I live in an urban area, not el campo) - one of whom I wouldnt even trust with a water pistol - and who took to shooting for target practice on the roof terrace. (Police didnt seem that bothered about it either.) I doubt whether he did the written exam, judging by his ASBO like behaviour most of the time he was here. Strict rules - in theory, perhaps - but ones that are obviously ignored by small arms dealers and negligent policemen!

16 years ago, friends imported two shotguns, gun safe was made, police came and licences given, then two years later, while renewing said licences the police chief asked if he could buy the guns, the offer was polity declined. I think you'll know what happened , next year the licence was not granted and guns confiscated.

Sounds about right.

My husband is actually an Armourer by trade.

On enquiring we were told we had to take an exam (questions and answers all provided in a book for the princley sum of 14 euros).
We would then be interviewed by the Guardia etc and if found suitable we could have a shotgun.
Rifles must be kept locked in a cabinet, but not so shotguns.
I never enquired about pistols, don't have the need for one.
We were told that whilst the questions etc are in Spanish if we need/wish we can take in an interpreter. (very accomodating wouldn't you agree).

So are you saying that it is easier or more difficult to get a FAC in Spain than in the UK?

Isn't it really down to personal responsibility? The two countries have different attitudes to that. In the UK the government tries to prevent irresponsible and dangerous behaviour by legislation, which as we have seen, rarely works. Traditionally in Spain it is the community and the family (and possibly the church) which regulate the behaviour of individuals, though this is changing.

Back to my earlier question in Post 17 - is it easier or more difficult to get a FAC in Spain than in the UK, in your opinion?
