I agree completely, and that law (Ley de Muerte Digna) was going through in Spain before the election. It is unlikely that the PP will pass it now, because they are closely tied to the Catholic church, but it is already in place in Andalucia.

Quote:
The Dignified Death Law, which is in effect in Andalucia since March 2010 and is the first in Spain, regulates the rights of patients during the final stage of their life and the obligations of the doctors that treat them.

Specifically, the law regulates the limits of treatment, that is to say when to withdraw or initiate treatments for patients with no possibility of recovery and prohibits the “useless” prolongation of life, know as aggressive therapy.

In Spain euthanasia and assisted suicide is penalised in article 143 of the Penal Code with penalties ranking from six months to six years in prison. The dignified death project which the Spanish Government approved on the 10 June cannot be dealt with in Parliament because of the elections called for the 20th of November.

The fundamental objectives of this Project are to ensure the dignity of patients who are terminally ill or dying and to guarantee full respect for their wishes on what treatment they should receive.

The Housing Association I was a Director of opened residential homes for care of the elderly.
Run on the same basis as the rest of the HA....all profits ploughed back into the Association to expand and fund new improved facilities.
