I'm pretty sure that my life style is better than my Brit counterparts, but I'm also pretty sure that things are not going to be the same for my daughter.
Absolutely PW, it is incredibly worrying when thinking of their future (or lack of it here). Just grateful they are the ages they are now and not out looking for work for some years yet. At the moment the twins are choosing their optativas for the 4th year of ESO and are already panicking about what they want to concentrate on when they get to the Instituto. Funnily enough, the ordinadora who talks to them about careers is trying to steer students on the FP Grado Superior path rather than university (I'm in favour of vocational qualifications too) as there are so many comments of university students coming out and just ending up on the Paro. To be honest, even at such a young age, the children and some of their friends are commenting (and have been for some time) that with their language abilities, they can see a future outside of Spain for themselves....and indeed that might colour their future options in order to have that alternative.

My lad is just 2 years old so with a bit of luck things might just have changed a bit when he is thinking about worthwhile employment. Of course, he could always take over the running of his dad's business. A professional layabout. Not really. Well, maybe a bit although I am far busier working here than I ever was back in Blighty.

The other night he woke up at around 4 am and said, I want to go outside and see the Moon, Jupiter, Venus, Mars and Saturn. Remember, he is just a terrible two.... I can't think where he gets all this stuff from. Certainly not me with a degree in astrophysics...

That's odd. According to Freud, at this stage he should be taking an interest in Uranus. Or his.
