Hi and welcome to the forum!

I've been an expat twice, in Spain and the UAE; loved the experiences so much, I'm planning on becoming one again when I decide where (the Middle East is looking like the fav!!). Currently in the UK, my home country, but after only 6 short weeks of being here having been away for the past 5 years, I'm keen to get out.....and shapish!!!!

Enjoy the forum!

Welcome! I have been considering Ecuador as a place to retire, but the altitude and climate have made me change my mind. Where do you live?

I live in Quito. You are right the altitude could be an issue. Its actually the 2nd highest capital, after La Paz, Bolivia, in the world.

I adjusted after a day or so when I was there, but I don't think it would be good for me long term.

Hi,

I am a South African living in Ecuador. My husband and I retired here in May this year. We live in Bahia De Caraquez at the moment but will be looking at Cuenca and Vilcabamba as prospective places to settle.
Does anyone live in these places and have any info to offer?

Hi Marjie,

We live in Cuenca and moved here from Australia this year. Absolutely love it. I will be happy to help you out with any questions.

Ciao
Dixie

Talking Cuenca

Thanks so much for your offer Ceapedro.

From experience, I have discovered that one needs to actually live in a town to discover what it is like; but there are some crucial questions I have about Cuenca:

Is there a pollution and UV problem such as exists in Quito?

Coming from Australia, which I believe, has a warm climate similar to South Africa, is Cuenca very cold as I have been told?

Do you live in a house or apartment and do you rent or have you bought property in Cuenca?

Regards,
Marjie.
