Default Looking for rental property

Hi everyone
I'm a newbie here. I am from the UK currently living in Florida USA, my wife and I moved from the UK just over a year ago and we now have to move nearer to family for personal reasons but we are not going back to the UK thats for sure. We like the idea of France and we'd like to know if anyone can give us information or links to sites that can help with short or long term rental. We need some time to look around for the right place to purchase and we don't want to rush into anything and make the wrong choice (already made that mistake once). We would consider a short term Holiday Let but we do have a Dog. Any information would be appreciated.

We are looking to move before christmas this year.

Thank you!

If you've been in FLA for a while, do you like it out there -- weather is totally different than UK for sure, and of course, gator country has its own charm

Wonder why so many folks hate the UK (or, in this case, going back to UK) so much. Whats changed so much, is this merely a post-Blair hangover or somethin deep down?? Yikes.

The other threads over on the forum seem full of people that wanna exit the UK asap for one reason or other.

Hi

The weather is great here in fla and if we had a choice we'd stay but for now we must get closer to a family member who needs us right now. Its not to say we won't be back and I will probably keep my home here. As I said though - there is no way we are going back to the UK. I don't know if anywhere in this world we live in is ideal or without its problems but one thing is for certain - Britain has less going for it now than anywhere else I would think of hanging my hat.

I have been happier here in FLA than I ever was in the UK. For example, I drive 220 miles a day on business and I have never seen a camera. Another example, when someone reports a crime a policeman gets sent to the scene then and there and more often than not the perpitrator is aprehended, in the UK most of police stations are either shut down or there is a moron on the front desk who doesn't know his a** from his elbow and in my opinion thats the reason its become unsafe to walk in the street. And the list goes on and on and on............

oh yeah - my garbage gets collected twice a week and without the risk of me getting a fine for putting too much in the bin.

Try posting in the France forum, in the Wanted section at the bottom, and look through the For Sale section.

I'm curious about how you got the right to live and work in the US. It's usually pretty hard to do.

Don't you buy gas? Cameras there. Go into convenience stores, use ATMs? Move cameras.

I meant speed camera just like the ones on almost every road in the UK. I made an investment here in FLA and purchased a business that qualifies for an E2 Visa.
Thanks for your help

The news is the same in all the British newspapers - as well as the above one, I read the Times, Guardian and Independent and the same news is there. I don't think you can escape reality. Have you read the statistics - they don't make pretty reading I can assure you.

Hi and welcome to the forum,
I totally agree with you about Florida and the UK. I really like Florida - and America in general, compared to the UK, but when we decided to buy overseas we ended up in France because it is closer to our business in the UK (as opposed to close to my husband who works in the Bahamas!).

Anyhow, to try to answer your question: there are websites out there which advertise property to rent in France but I don't think it is a good way to do it, as you can't be on the spot. What I would do is find myself a nice B & B in an area I fancy and book myself in there for a week or few. Choose one run by a British couple. They will almost certainly have connections locally and know who has a house to rent, or where you can go to find one. If that fails, then you can buy the local papers, visit the local immobiliers and find somewhere that way. Don't worry about the dog, the B & Bs will most likely be perfectly happy to take a dog - just keep looking till you find one.

I am very familiar with the Central Brittany area as that's where my house is. If you were interested in that area I could probably give you some more pointers.

Also, I don't know if this thread ought to be on the France forum instead of here - maybe you could repost your question over there?

Hope this helps,
Deeana
