Smile another newbie

Hi Everyone,
My husband and I have been thinking for a long time about moving abroad. We currently live in the UK (UK born and bred) but are seeking a sunnier climate. Ultimatley we'd love to get to the US but know our present chances are slim, so are willing to look at alternatives for now.

Would be nice to read other peoples views and opinions on here.

(p.s I am a rubbish speller, please don't grill me for it )

Welcome to the forum! Be sure to take a look at the By Country forums for some sunnier climes. Australia seems to be relatively easy as far as immigration goes, if you are English-speaking and young enough.

I beg to differ. You have to be young enough, healthy AND have the skills that they are looking for and even then it can take up to 2 years to see whether or not they'll let you in.

However after saying that it's definitely worth it!

Ninny_poo - there is heaps of info in the Australian country section if you want to take a look and ask any questions on the forum.

Regards,
Karen

No, seriously it is nice to be able to hook into a wealth of other peoples experiences and I am willing to take some suggestions.

Default Where do you have in mind?

So you say the US is out, i myself have applied to move to the US, through my sister who is a US citizen, but we have now been waiting more than 3 years.
Where do you fancy moving to?
I live in the north of Spain, Empuriabrava to be exact, a nice coastal town with a small british community. Around my town their are lots of other towns that have quite a high Ex Pat community. L'Escala, L'Estartit are a few towns that are really nice, busy in the summer and nice and quiet in the winter. The weather here is very good all year round, nice and hot July and August, and then very mild during the winter months. Hope this gives you something to search the net for.

Welcome, fan of the Seinfeld show! Your information about the time you have been waiting is interesting. We get a lot of people on the forum who think that immigration to the US is fairly easy and that the process is quick. Obviously neither is the case. Most of the posters have neither relatives nor in-demand skills.

Thanks for that input Lee. Interesting about your timeline on trying to get to the US. I have a friend who lives there, she went out in the 60's (with a £100 to her name!) and is now a US citizen. She sponsored her brother which took 12 years
So what made you move to Spain? Its interesting that you say the weather is nice all year there in the north. I have looked at Spain but always southern because I hate cold winters and ruled the North out (without even having prior knowledge). I have a young daughter, pre school age, so do you know anything about schools there?

(sorry if this is slightyly jumbled, I need move coffee!!)
