Just found this place and thought I'd give it a try. Not too sure if this is the place to try to find work overseas, but nothing ventured, nothing gained huh ?
Worked in Longannet Power Station in Scotland for 27 years and decided last year to try my hand at this contracting malarkey. Just finished my first job at Steven's Croft Biomass Plant in Lockerbie. The contract was for 3 months and I've just passed the year mark last week. More of the same would be handy ! I've been the Operations Commissioning Engineer but I'd love to get back to my core trade which is Mechanical. I'd love to travel to almost anywhere but my preference would be Australia or the Far East, so if anyone knows of anything doing anywhere, I'd love to hear about it. |

Hi Steve,
If you look at the Australian forum you'll find loads of information there. As Michelle says you need to know the rules for visas and work and there is a sticky post called "Please read..." that has links to the visa types. If your skills are in demand you may get sponsorship but most people move to Oz without a job and get one once they arrive. In that same post there is a link to check whether your skills are in demand in Oz. If you don't get sponsorship and try the skilled independent visa (which is the one we cam in on) it can take up to 2 years to get in - but it is worth it! Good luck where ever you chose. Regards, Karen
