Hi my name is Simon, 34 and live in Oxforshire with wife and 4 kids!

I have been offered a role in Dubai, sounds good but after looking at rental prices I will have to push harder!

Assume for more specific q's I should post on the Dubai specific site?

Many Thanks for the help and advice that I am about to receive

Hi Simon and welcome to the forum.

Yes you are right, there will be more response on the Dubai forum.

I am surprised at how many people are moving to Dubai, even with the high cost of living.

Good luck with your move.

Michelle

I think the income is commensurate with the cost of living, and Dubai doesn't have an income tax.

I have noticed from reading some of the posts, the salaries being offered seem very low, but as you say, they are tax free.

Living in an ex-pat community will also make sure that the prices stay high and the same can be said for any ex-pat community anywhere in the world. That's the advantage of living where we are, no ex-pats

The salaries generally are based on the company providing a separate allowance for housing, since rents are paid a year at a time and very few people are prepared for that.

Hi Simon,
If you post on the Dubai board perhaps we can answer any specific questions you may have.
Im glad you have been looking at the price of rentals, as they are very expensive !!
Yes, lots of people still head over, but those who may not have done their "homework" on the cost of living, tend to head back after a year or so...so do homework before you make the commitment.
Yes salaries are tax free, but that also depends how long you are here (ie heading back to your home country within a certain time frame, makes you liable for paying tax)
There are fees and charges on lots of things, so for some, it makes very little difference re the tax.
Please yell out if I can help you with any other questions.
Cheers
