Hi,
I'm Rebecca. I'm in Texas, too, and I'm pondering a move to Mexico. Your post is several months old -- hope I hear from you! I'd love to exchange info on how best to accomplish this!
Adios!
Rebecca

Default Hi Pete

Hi Pete,
Like you, I'm still in the research stage, but would like to accomplish this transition as soon as possible. While I've got visions of walking my dogs on the beach at sunrise, I'm actually focusing my attention right now on Ajijic and the surrounding lake area. I've already decided on Mexico, so at least that's accomplished. Any particular area that you're investigating? (I'm assuming so, since you're already planning your trip in January.)
Rebecca

hi Rebecca
I haven't really decided on an area but "you got to be there" to do that.
I plan to stay for at least 30 days to get a realistic picture of things
and look for a school for my daughter.
I also need to look into taking my dog and if there is a quarantine for her.

Hi DRPT, one of our other members had this to say about bringing dogs into Mexico:

Quote:
Mexico is full of dogs so no problem. You just need papers from a vet saying the dogs are healthy and shots are up to date. Exam has to be withing a few weeks of crossing the border.
As with any advice you get form a non-professional, check to be sure, but this forum is full of people who've already been there/done that, so they very well may be correct.

Default Bringing Dogs to Mexico - What I've Learned Thus Far

Hi Pete,

Well, roaming around Mexico for a full month in January sure sounds fantastic!

I have two dogs myself, and I've found out a bit of info on bringing them in ... shouldn't be a big problem. (I'm thinking the bigger hurdle dog-wise will be finding a rental that I like that will let me have these two medium sized doggies.)

I plan on driving my pups over - I don't like the idea of the dogs being in the pet section of the plane, had a bad experience bringing my beloved lab Molly back from Colorado once (she was fine, but she'd be doused with some smelly chemical and was just shivering when I picked her up, some of the stuff looked like it had frozen into her fur).

Anyway, bottom line: there's no quarantine. Need a vet certificate dated within 5 days of crossing the border, showing rabies vacination. From expat pet owners I've asked thus far, the dogs are usually just waived thru, no big deal.

Hi....we've been coming to Mexico for years with our dog. Have NEVER been asked to see any papers either coming into Mexico or going back to the USA. Of course, that doesn't mean it won't ever happen....
