Hi Nathan,

It really depends on what you are looking for. I moved from the UK to Oz in July 2007.

If you have a look on the country forums you'll find more info on both countries.

Regards,
Karen

Hi Karen,

As you are in Australia ( and i learnt that you are in the IT field) could you give me some pointers on job prospects in Australia...

Could you help me out by directing me to some one who would consider my profile whilst i am in India?

Thanks for your reply...

Hi Nathan and welcome to the forum.

The most important thing you need to do is check out the visa situation. Once you know where you can live and work, then you can start looking for jobs. There might be tons of jobs in Australia, but if you can't get a visa, then they are no good.

Good luck with your plans.

Michelle

Take a browse through the Australia section of the forum. It has a lot of information about how to figure out if you qualify for immigration. Admission is by a points system, and you can calculate your score on the web site. Check the UK section, too.

Hi Nathan,

As others have said you need to check out the visa situation first.
If you check out the sticky posts in the Australian forum there is loads of info there.

Do you mean that you've applied and you don't know what you've applied for? Or do you mean that you are looking at applying for the state sponsorship?

Sponsorship usually happens if your skill is in demand.
Here is a link on regional visas in Victoria - is that what you've applied for?

For jobs see Search for jobs in Australia. Online job search and look for your skill set. The jobs usually assume that you are allowed to work in Australia (so you already have a visa), but it will give you an idea.

Regards,
Karen

Hi Karen,

On this site which you have specified it only mentions the fact that people who are offered state sponsorship need to remain in that state for 2 yrs and that they need to work in a regional area of australia....

SO, i wanted to know as to what extent does an Australian state sponsor migrants??

Even if i am offered state sponsorhip do regional areas in australia have IT companies who have set up base ???

I have noticed that most of the IT work is confined only to the major cities in Australia.....

Thank you once again for all your replies.....

Hi Nathan,

It depends on the kind of IT you are after. On the whole I would say that you would do better in places like Sydney or Melbourne. If you check out the threads in the Australia forum this has been discussed by others too since there are a number of IT professionals moving to Australia.

Regards,
Karen
