Hi,

We've thought about Argentina and Uruguay and Panama as retirement destinations. How is it where nyou are?

I've just arrived in Panama, and when I recover from the long bus trip from Nicaragua, I'm going to be checking into retirement options. I do know Panama has fairly easy requirements and lots of benefits for pensionados.

Hi Jim and Fiona,

I have posted loads of information on the Argentine country forum. which will give you an idea.

I know from other ex-pats who have retired here, that you need to show an income of 2000 pesos (350 pounds) per month to get a five year retirement visa. After five years, it becomes permanent. I have permanent residency here because I am married to an Argentine.

The reason we left the UK was the lack of security and being scared to go out alone at night. Both my sons were mugged, and the youngest at 1.30 in the afternoon, almost outside our home. Here in Argentina the children have found freedom. I am not saying there isn't any crime, I don't think there is such a place in the world, but we are not in Buenos Aires, but a city 250 miles south of BA, on the Atlantic ocean called Mar del Plata. Many ex-pats I know in BA, say they find the city a lot safer than where they come from and most tourists think the same.

We don't need to talk about the weather - almost everywhere is better than the UK. We spent this weekend on the beach, although it is officially autumn here next week.

Properties here for Europeans are extremely cheap. It is still possible to buy a studio apartment for 15,000 pounds and less. For 200,000 pounds you can buy a mansion with pool etc. The cost of living is still cheap for us, although there has been a lot of inflation in the last year. Saying that, I have read that the UK is having it's fair share of inflation, although the government say it is ONLY 2% .

We love it here.

Regards

Michelle
