Smile Newbie from South Africa

Hi all! Just thought I would introduce myself.........this is such an interesting site!

Bit about me: South African through and through, love this country, would not want to leave, unless I had to! It is tooooo beautiful!

I keep myself busy by offering personal, business, concierge services to South African's living abroad. So many of them need things attended to in their home country.

Well not sure what else to say here....mmmm.....well, please drop me a line. Look forward to getting to know you all!

Bye for now,
Michele

Hi Michele,

The picture of Blanqita (Whitey) was taken just after we found her, six months ago near the sea. She was such a little cutie - she climbed on my lap and refused to move. She's a bit like a dog because she follows me around, plays football with the children and is a guard cat - no other cat dare venture into our garden. She is more human than animal. She sleeps when we sleep, eats when we eat and is very loving.

She sounds like one very special "child!" I have a white one just like her - she has one blue eye and one green eye. Very independent but loves to bath when i do. She actually climbs right into the water!! Crazy cat, but I love her to bits! In fact all animals, I am an animal lover through and through. My dream is to work with animals but have yet to find a way to get that right!

Oh well, that's it for now.
Cheers,
Michele

Although Argentines are great lovers of animals, there are still many stray cats and dogs which is heart-breakening. Yesterday when I opened the door for my daughter, she had been followed home by a big stray dog. The strays are so calm and looking for love. The strays instinctly known when you love animals.

We hope to be able to set up an animal rescue centre in the future. An ex-pat in Buenos Aires has a rescue operation and we would love to do the same here one day.

People always assume that when there are strays, the locals don't love animals. If there didn't exist places like Battersea dogs home, the UK would have the same problem and the UK is a country of animal lovers also.

Hola Michele!

I can understand your love of South Africa. I myself spent some time out there living in Cape Town and found the experience just simply wonderful (except for the police and their dartboard of speeding fines!).

I still remember the first time I was out there and was listening to the traffic reports and heard something like the 'Robots were out on Voortrekker Road and Albert ' and that traffic was log-jammed as a result! It was only later someone told me that a robot was a traffic light!

Ah gee, that's so funny! Not the first time I've heard this. It can get confusing I know! So what were you doing in Cape Town? Were you on holiday? You certainly chose the best of SA to visit I must say. The Cape is extraordinarily beautiful.

Michelle, I know just how you feel. I am forever picking up strays and end up having to keep most of them. There are just so many here. And there is absolutely no support for animals in SA which is one thing that really makes me somewhat angry. Most organisations rely on donations but that doesn't go very far. A lot of them have to close down due to lack of funds. I have another pet related business which I am hoping, as it grows, will be able to support animals organisations worldwide. My main aim in that is to get as many as possible spayed and neutered in order to cut down the population explosion of millions of unwanted litters. Oh dear, best I run along, this is a subject I could write on forever.

Chow for now,
Michele

Hi Michele! I love Cape Town. I just came back from Cape Town 3 days ago. Went there for the second time - am really thinking of relocating to Cape Town.
