I dearly want to go back there again and see how much has changed; From what I've heard the Victoria and Alfred Waterfront has vastly changed from when I last stayed in one of the hotel's there (I think it was the City Hotel but I can't remember).

Then there was one time a group of us from work were heading out for a bite in the Sports bar on the waterfront (which I believe is no longer there) and the bouncer asked us if we had any concealed weapons. I smirked at the thought until, one of our group, the most diminutive gentle black haired blue-eyed sweetly smiling lass you could imagine, brought out a gun that I swear to this day was twice as large the the handbag she produced it from! LOL

Yes, I totally agree. We need to come up with a global solution. Maybe governments should make a law whereby ALL stray animals are castrated. To me, this seems such an easy solution. I am sure there are many vets out there who would kindly do this free of charge.

I don't how it was back then but V&A Waterfront is absolutely gorgeous now! I love the street performers and also, the Fish & Chips restaurant - yummy!! They have new shopping mall there (if I'm not mistaken, it's new) and they have all international brands there which is good for the tourists.

Hi there JoziJoe! Where were you from in SA?

I'm sorry to hear you're homesick... it must be difficult to be away from your comfort zone.

The guest house I was staying in is situated near a small town so it's a walking-distance to Woolworths supermarket and Mugg & Bean (I love the Chicken Mayo sandwich!). At the back of the building, there is the Durbanville's vegetable market - I love it because I could find all sorts of munchies. Good for watching TV before dinner!

The thing is, when BF said it was summer and that it was roughly around 15 - 23 (am I right?) - I thought it couldn't be too bad. I didn't bring any sweater or jacket with me. I walked around with my smallish Ts and shirts! I sleep without the fan switched on though - it's too cold for me at night! Just remembering the time I spent there... makes me want to go back very soon!!

I'm in for staying in touch! It is sad to see all the stray animals. Just a few months ago, I found 3 kittens in the big garbage bin. They were in a box so I assumed someone must have gotten rid of them. I took them in and bathe them. Feed them using those small bottles. I couldn't keep any at the moment as it is only my father and I at home. My mother passed away recently, if not she would have loved to keep them while I am at work so I had to give them up at the animal shelter but I made sure it was the one that didn't put animals to sleep. I can't bear the thought of those younglings being put to sleep.
Hi again! You are right about the degrees. And yes, most of us spend summer with very few clothes on. It gets extremely hot here! As for those kittens, well done to you! You gave them a second chance. We need more people like you in this world!

Yea, you're right, the V&A Waterfront is a major attraction here. Always something going on to attract tourists and locals alike.
I am amazed to hear about the girl carrying a gun - but not surprised. No doubt she had an awful experience some time in her life hence her need to protect herself. Not something I have ever thought of though! I walk and live by faith!

I totally agree with that! The more that are spayed/neutered the less strays there will be. What really gets me going though is breeders. Don't they realise that they are simply adding to the population explosion? I just don't understand, if one is a true animal lover, why one would breed more when one knows the trouble our animals are in!!! Bit of a sore point with me.

Yes, you are right about the shopping mall! Too expensive for us locals but tourists love it! Plus they are open 24/7!
