Cool Greetings from London (soon to be Milan)

Hi

I've just joined & thought I would say hi.

I'm moving to Milan with my significant other in the next few months & so am looking for advice, hopefully some friendship & lots of tips on living in Italy!

Hi Asea,

Welcome to the forum. What part of London are you in? We left nearly 18 months ago and not missing it a bit.

Regards

Michelle

Hi Michelle

I'm currently living in Chiswick, but up until a month or so ago was living on a little narrowboat which floated around London (but was moored in Canary Wharf). I'm a little nervous about moving (only natural) but mostly excited - where did you go? Glad you sound so positive about your move - hopefully this time next year I will be saying the same thing!

Edit: doh! I see you've moved to Argentina

I always do the same - ask questions when the answer is already in front of me.

Is it true that if you live on a boat, you don't pay council tax?

It depends on whether you have a permanent mooring or not. If you don't you don't have to pay council tax but still have to pay a registration fee to British Waterways. If you do have a mooring you have to pay council tax - although one resident's association fought this & was the only one who's members did not have to pay - luckily for me I was one of them!

My other half is being relocated to Milan offices within our company (we work together). I will probably find another job within our company to move there. We both decided a little while ago that we would love to travel, see the world & live outside of the UK while we are still young(ish!) & carefree. We don't speak Italian yet but will be going to Italian school here in the next month or so. Am not sure about my little ones though - not sure they do Italian lessons for cats!

We have a bilingual cat Spanish/English - you can see her in the picture. We found her six months ago when she was about 4 months old - she was the cutest pure white kitten. We treat her like a princess.

Hi Asea,

I have just seen your thread and was wondering how you are doing following your relocation.

I am Italian and my partner is British, we live in London at the moment but planning to move to Italy next year.

It would be interesting to know how you have found it...

Ciao!
