Greetings.

I'm an American who's lived overseas for a while and who is moving to the Philippines. Unlike other places I've lived as an expatriate, I'm moving to The Philippines without the aid of a future employer, so this is entirely on my own. I have a means of support, but I don't exactly have money to burn and I'm probably going to live in Manila. There are a lot of challenges ahead of me. but I'm very much looking forward to it. I've always loved Filipinos, their culture and their food, and I'm anxious to get started with my new life in this fascinating country.

My big problem now is finding a place to live. Ideally, the place for me would be like the East Village before gentrification; a place where the creative community lives and perhaps works. I'll need an apartment that isn't too expensive and a neighborhood that contains the vital necessities of life.

Does this sound like any place or places in Manila? Any help would be appreciated.
