Default Hello from new member.....

Hi all,
Just joined; we are looking to share knowledge and experiences as we contemplate a move to France from the UK.
Our ideal is to buy and renovate properties in France until we have built up sufficient capital to settle there permanently.
We've done property rebuilds and renovations in the UK but realistic opportunities within the UK now are becoming seriously limited.
Look forward to sharing with you all.
Regards to all
Pete & Lisa

Hi and welcome! Since you're from the UK, I assume you've seen all those BBC shows following people moving to France. (During the brief time we got BBC Prime here, it was about all they showed - save for Eastenders. <g>)

There are a couple of "gotchas" you'll have to watch out for. The main one is getting permission from the local mairie (town hall) for major renovations. The land use regulations are pretty complicated - how much of a property you can build on, and all the regs about how high you can build, what materials you can use and where you can put windows. It helps to have a good working relationship with the local mairie and the staff there, and that takes a little while to develop.

In any event, brush up on your French conversation. You'll definitely need to make use of it in your plans!
