Default Malta

Hi everyone,
I haven't seen any postings re Malta and as an expat's daughter I would like to say that Malta has always been a popular spot for expats over the last forty years because it is a friendly island, English speaking and really up and coming despite its small size. Property investments have escalated over the past years and businesses are relocating to Malta for tax reasons. The weather is mild and main attractions are the beaches, history, heritage, culture and the low crime rate. Anybody out there interested in more???

Talking Hi from Malta

Hi,
nice to have some communication. I have dealt in property for a few years and am currently working for a development company in Malta and we are on the brink of a state of the art project in the North East of the island which is the most picturesque part of Malta. Also very close to Gozo and Comino and five minutes away from the main sandy beaches. Have you been to Malta?

Yes .... I spent a holday in Mellhua Bay (probably speeled that wrong) and loved it.

Its a very friendly island but at the time I went it was limited in what it had to offer for younger people .... however I'm a lot older now

I didn't think there was much in Gozo.

Hi,

Yes that area of Malta is very pretty. Malta has come along very fast and very nicely. You would not recognize it now. Development has gone one step further and we even have a few high rise buildings with state of the art design. In fact the developer I work for is just about to start a new project in Xemxija which is five minutes away from Mellieha. This I believe is going to be the best development on the island with a 1000sq metre outdoor pool and indoor olympic size lap pool, virtual golf, shopping plaza, hamam spa etc. Not what you would have found before for sure! Gozo also has five star hotels and many beautiful farmhouses with pools for short lets, yet has retained alot of its charm. I love the north of Malta, Comino and Gozo. The central area of Sliema, St. Julians is full of restaurants, night life and hotels and Valletta is presently being upgraded but the upgrade will still respect its heritage, so as you can see there is alot going on. Maybe you should come over one of these days. Are you based in England or elsewhere?

I'm in Spain, and although I appreciate what you're saying, having seen the costas here I'm not quite sure that high rise buildings equals "coming along fast and very nicely".

Its so easy to destroy a country's identitiy by over development. And impossible to re assert it afterwards

You are absolutely right and the situation will not get to that, I HOPE!!!! The enivironmentalists here make sure that this is limited. Being a small island we cannot afford to be another Spain and that is not the direction we are going in, however a few dotted around are actually just making a statement and have become landmarks, and the idea is to have a area where we can meet the requirements of some individuals who prefer design
and technology as opposed to the magic of the past.

I have friends (an artist from the USA & his Polish wife) who, moved from Prague to Puerto Rico but they absolutely loved living in Malta. I think they will soon return there.

I have family in Amsterdam who vacation frequently in Gozo (mostly for diving, I think) and they share that enthusiasm.

Ann -

we're committed to buying a place just behind your new development..
Our views will be completely blocked, and we'll now have 3-5 years of looking over a building site (so thanks ;-)

Whats interesting is that the development is for 12-19 storey buildings in an area where the maximum is supposed to be 4...

How on earth did you get that past planning ?

Well - thats exactly the point I made earlier .... 19 storey buildings, the beginning of the end my friend ...... look at the Spanish Costas. There are areas in Spain where the building height is restricted and it makes a huge difference.
