Default Fed Up in the UK

I'm sorry if this sounds like a bit of a rant, but I am fed up with life in the UK. The country just doesn't feel like home any more. I don't agree with most of what the government has done in the past 10 years. I feel like my quality of life is rubbish. The country seems to be Europe's dumping ground for assylum seekers. My personal opportunities (working in IT) seem to be de-grading due to cheap services from developing countries. And you need to be on a £100k salary to own in a half decent property and good quality of life.

I moved from London to Shropshire a couple of years ago as I thought this would give me a better life. It has helped a little but I want more...

I feel like an Expat already but without a country. I really like the sound of Australia (NSW) but the distance may be a barrier. It would be great to move to a country where I could hop on a cheap flight and come back to the UK for the weekend.

Please help me find a destination...

I am sorry that you feel like that about the UK. If you want a quick flight back, then it sounds as though somewhere in Europe would be worth considering. Do you speak other languages?

I'm in NSW mate and I've gotta admit that it is pretty cool - a few negatives but I'm def glad I did it. The distance really isnt that much of a problem - with the internet and webcams it really bridges the gap. The only worry is that it is very expensive for a quick (well not quick!!) back to the UK!

If you've got anymore specific questions feel free to ask!

Hi

I am alos in London, and I know exactly what you mean. Life here is drab and dull with loads of our types of business being lapped up by foreign nationals that work longer hours and do the same job! Which does not make sense however as per your question, I suggest North Africa or Mediteranean.

A lot of the UK expats I meet in my travels give me the whole spiel about how they were so fed up with the UK. Then they start in on their new home and how fed up they are there. I'm not sure being fed up is a good reason to leave. So many people are 'fed up' with things that are universal or worse at their destination.

I met an American who went on and on about being fed up with the bull in the US. So he chose to be an ESL teacher in Thailand. He isn't allowed to smoke at his school, not just in the buildings but within sight of the campus. He has to wear long sleeves in class because he has tattoos and they have to be hidden (note that classrooms are not always air-conditioned and it goes above 40 where he is, so long sleeves really are a problem). He thought American women were money-grubbing and came to a place where western men are looked at as bank accounts.

My point is, examine what really bothers you, and do some research first.

I see a lot of people complaining in Spain, too, and sometimes I'm one of them. I didn't leave the US because I was unhappy there, but I've learned I'm not as flexible as I thought I was. A lot of the people I meet who are unhappy here were unhappy before, too. And you always know if someone is unhappy because that's the first thing they tell you.

If you come to Australia you wont want to hop on a plane & go back! Only joking, but Oz has a huge variation of lifestyles & climates, you can check them all out with only 1 visa. With a lot of smaller countries, what you get when you get off the plane is fairly similar all over. If you dont like it, there isnt as much choice.
