Thanks for answering, It has been some time since I was back in UK, but would like informatinon things like How much should we have to support ourselves for at least 6 months or until we can get jobs. We are looking at the west of Scotland, Ayrshire. Is it going to be difficult to find housing that will let us have our dogs, they are both proffessionally trained and are part of our family.
It is just my husband and myself comming over, he is Canadian I am Brittish Subject. What about transportation, health care, groceries, and especially housing.

We find the cost of living here quite high so you may need a good bank balance to keep you going. It is Ayrshire that we live in when were you planning to move over.
There is a few private let propertys but these can be expensive and may not accept pets. If you choose to live in a rural location a car would be better for commuting but not essential as there is plenty of buses.

Hi Peggy thought maybe our local council would be able to give you some info but not allowed to post there address here until i have made 20 posts so i will try and get them to you later, if you search this site it may give you an idea about our council tax rates ect. i will try and find more info for you later and feel free to ask anything else.

We are planning to live around COYLTON, it is where my family and I was from. We have been going on the sites for information about price differences in purchasing items, and when we do all the calculations there is little if any difference in the prices of most items, electronics, househols, groceries etc. We do know that the cost of housing is more and we are prepared for that. We are looking ot come over as early as this fall and as late as next. It all depends on how things work out here, trying to put away as much money as possible also, my husband has elderly parent.

I know that we would be purchasing a car eventually, but I think the bus system to Ayr is very good. Where abouts do you live, do remember most towns etc in the area. Thanks for the info, it will be nice to be prepared as much as possible.

We actually have been thinking about this for some time, but with Kids etc it was difficult to make the final move. Believe me Canada has its problems also
maybe we just hide them better than other countries. We are both enjoy adventure in our lives, and we are older but not dead yet. Looking forward to being able to trvel to other countries without most of the hassle that we have when we wish to go to the States from here.

We live about 8 miles from Coylton in another village but i know Coylton quite well. If you look on net for south-ayrshire council that is your local authority for that area you may get an idea of council tax etc. you may also find houses for rent. And if you check out the asda website that will give you an idea of groceries and electrical goods.
I think there are quite a few buses run to coylton so that wont be a problem for you.
