Have you contacted the British consulate? Does he have family? Can he get his pension reinstated? Does he have credit cards? An ATM card with an emergency cash advance provision? Will going home help, if he won't have any money when he gets there?

I don't know how the British consulate does it, but I saw an American family being briefed about being repatriated once, while I was waiting for a consular official. The consulate would take their passports and give them travel documents good only for the flight home. The consulate would purchase first class tickets for them, and they would owe the government for the first class fare and could not have their passports back or get new ones until the debt was paid. All future tax refunds or any other funds coming from the federal government would go directly to their debt.

Why first class? So people don't abuse the system. There used to be an amazing number of people wandering the earth, spending their last penny on beer, then showing up to be shipped home. They figured rather than borrow money from family or friends, they'd just let the government take care of it. The government was not happy about that.

The British consulate will ask all the questions I put at the beginning before even considering repatriation. They might be able to help him navigate getting the disability pension re-instated. Unless, of course he isn't disabled and committed fraud to get the pension. If that's the case, he shouldn't go near the consulate.

This man was brought here by his brother who took off on some kind of buisness , his family have tried to contact the brother with no success . We have tried all of the above plus a lot more with no worthwhile responses , that is why i posted on this forum to ask for any suggestions , some one in England took the trouble to inform the ministry he was not in his flat so they cut his disability money off , they do not pay outside of England of which he was not aware , he is truly on mental and physical benefits , i read the doctors report . I have found him a free place to sleep for a while to obviate my wife and i from further rental payments but we still feed him and look after his daily needs , tomorrow we renew his visa . This is putting a strain on our relationship as she is not as humanitarian as myself and cannot understand how his problem will escalate if we do not try to help him get repatriated . World humanitarian agencies have failed to respond . His pension can be reinstated as soon as he steps foot on English soil , thank you for your concern and relies .

Is there some reason why his family can't send him money by Western Union or reimburse you via PayPal? And you really do need to let the British Consulate know that they have a citizen in distress. There may be other avenues they can pursue, and they should be able to repatriate him. He does have other options.

And to put a cynical spin on it, the consulate may be able to verify that you are not being scammed. Papers don't mean much in SEAsia, where fake diplomas and everything else are easy to buy. Sorry, but it's something you have to consider.

His chidren have small children of thier own with little money to spare , they have tried contacting his brother somewhere here in Asia with no luck , i took him to the British Embassy to register and explain his predicament where he gave them his original doctors documents of his mental and physical health codition which they photo-copied , may have well been reporting a lost dog .My wife and i are not looking for personal reimbursement , just someone who will return him to England where he can get the medical attention he needs and deserves as a genuine British subject I am a giver not a taker , i am also Bi-Polar so i feel his distress as though it is my own . I feel it is the British medical profession that should be assisting him not castigating him for his misdemeanor of stepping outside of the country , we are not all perfect , nor are we all aware of all the laws despite the fact that stupidity , sorry , innocence of laws is no defence .
Thank you for your ongoing help , it is greatly appreciated Colin

I'm really surprised that his pension stopped because he left the country. Retirement payments don't stop, obviously, or Spain would be empty of British retirees. So why should disability be any different?

I'm surprised they didn't repatriate him.

Thank you for your reply , i am not only surprised his disability allowance has been curtailed , i am absolutly disgusted with the lack of interest shown to this man by the parties concerned in England . We phoned the ministries involved to explain the problems , but he was treated in an offhanded manner , " You should not have left the country "etc , my e-mails to various government departments , red cross , etc , have not ellicited one response .I stressed the consequences of his position here in Asia but these heartless people have shown no humanitarian interest what so ever , he is standing up well so far because my wife and i treat him as a person we have known for a long time , not just a stray dog . He is starting to exhibit some signs of mental trauma and this disturbes us , i have been there so understand to a certain degree what may be going on in his head through all of this conflict , it is vitally important a depressive feels wanted and is still of some use to some-one . We move him to another friendly persons home today which i feel sure will bring him "UP " but it is not the answer , he realy needs the medical assistance he was getting before . We will renew his visa today and on Monday go back once again to the Embassy
Thank you for your concern , Colin

When you suffer from depression it becomes very difficult to see your way out of even simple situations, let alone complex ones.

This totally destroys the impression I had that the British consulate does more for its citizens than the American consulate does for its own.

You could try calling a different consulate. Try one in Thailand or Malaysia, not necessarily in the capitol. You might just hit a helpful person who will give you some advice, at least.

Or call his MP. Or the press.
