Question Norway? US citizen

Hi, I am new around here. I have been offered a job in Norway, maybe. I say that as the person who wants to hire me is currently looking at my "work" and then after reaching a decision will either hire me or not. I love Norway and I have been there countless times. My question to you wise people of this forum, if I do not get this job is it too risky to go and search for work there? Of course not staying longer than three months to find work? Depending on who I talk to, they either say, it is better to have the job before even getting there or you should only try finding a job in person. I'm in my twenties and I have a degree and savings to support myself during this time since I know how expensive Norway is compared to the U.S. My parents of course, think I am nuts and I will fail.

Any support or help would be very great. Thank you for taking the time to read this.

By the way, I have been learning Norwegian for some years and I speak other languages other than English, just in case this helps my case.

Hi, and welcome to the forum.

Hey, what's the worst thing that can happen to you? You blow your savings for three months on a job search in Norway and then you have to come back home and look for a "regular job." If you're willing to risk your savings, with the knowledge that you may wind up back at square one for a while, then go for it!
Cheers,
Bev

Thanks for the quick response! That is exactly what I was thinking so thank you for cementing my thoughts. By chance, if I were to acquire an employer willing to hire me, would I have to leave the country and go back the the u.s.a. until the work visa was in place? Or perhaps do you think I could in fact go to Sweden for a quick vacation while waiting around?

I'm not real familiar with Norway's visa requirements, but you ought to be abel to find some information here: UDI: Norwegian Directorate of Immigration

The big trick is normally to have some sort of job skill that isn't in oversupply on the local job market. Multiple languages is a good start.

Do keep us posted on your progress.
Cheers,
Bev

Are you going to see if the job opportunity you already found will work out, then if not, try going there and job hunting? If so, no matter how much money you have saved, now is the time to buckle down and really, really try to increase your savings as much as possible. That would give you enough to return to the US if necessary for a visa, or to keep you going while you hunt for work back home.

I hope your savings are savings, not the contents of an IRA or 401K. I speak from sad experience, keep those intact, and always contribute the maximum possible.

Other than that caveat, all you are really doing is taking a break from work to travel. Not as interesting as spending the winter in Southeast Asia or Argentina, but to each his own.

They are savings yes, thanks for your help but as you said to each his own and I would rather be in Norway during the winter on vacation than Southeast Asia. I love snow.

In re-reading what I wrote, I realized I used 'interesting' when I really meant 'warm'. I'm not a cold-weather person.
