Default Health Insurance?

I am covered by the US Government for medical care but only while in the US or certain other countries.

If I retire to a place not on the list I have to pay for medical care out of pocket. So, are there any suggestions for Medical Insurance for Expats?

Expat insurance can depend a bit on the country you're living in. Some countries require you to have medical coverage that equals the national plan as part of the visa requirements. And many US expats like to have medical insurance that allows you to return to the US for treatment if you so wish.

You can also get expat insurance through some expat associations. I usually send people to the AARO website, where they have a general expat medical coverage (available to their members) that will give you some idea of the cost and coverage of a "standard" plan acceptable to most countries that require expat insurance. AARO?s Health Care Program for Expatriate America Independent coverage is available through their insurance broker or directly from most large international insurance companies.
Cheers,
Bev
