Question Question from a newbie

Hiya all I will introduce myself properly on the correct board later. But for now if it's ok I have a question. If we had a home in the States and could support ourselves without help, how much of the year could we live there?
Thanks in advance and I'm sorry if this has already been covered.

Hi and welcome to the forum.

Unfortunately what you're asking is not a simple question when it comes to the US, and there's no simple answer other than "it depends."

Simply owning a home in the US doesn't give you any particular right to actually live there. It can depend on your job status, your residence status where you are currently living, your nationality and your general background (have you ever overstayed a visa? do you have a criminal record anywhere? can you "prove" that you have interests back home that will assure you leave the US when you say you will? etc. etc.).

It sounds like you are looking at a tourist visa for what you want to do. The trick there is that it's up to the discretion of the immigration officer on each visit how long you'll be allowed to stay.

Take a look in the America section. There have been several discussions about this sort of situation in the last few weeks.
Cheers,
Bev
