Hi All !
Just an observation I thought I would share with everyone !
We've had a pretty awful year so far I won't bore you with details, but we thought we would treat ourselves to a really good holiday(the last few have been reccys for a move to the sun, so constantly on the go) but anyhoo ! R & R was the main thing so Rhodes it was to be 5* all inc, in March the holiday was going to cost us £1600...........now the same holiday, same company, same date in September is now over £1900 !!!!!! and not including transfers use of a rep or baggage ?
Tour operators are now charging you £10 per Kg for every Kg over the 16Kg allowance and thats both ways !
Got to say this is bad.........it used to be cheaper to go abroad than stay at home...and probably still is........so how much will it cost us here !
I had noticed a post that Big Pete wrote with regards to Mallorca, saying that it was pretty quiet........well Pete I guess this is why !

Are you planning to move from the UK? While you might get some information here about places people like, the forum is for people who are living abroad, or plan to. They may not have much information on the cost of tours to the place they have chosen to live.

Hi Synthia,
Yes we plan to move abroad and have been seriously looking into making the right move....first time !
My point to this post was....that many people on here are wanting to buy business's and tourism will be their bread & butter......so if people can't afford to go on holiday......well their business may well suffer !
As I said in my original post, Big Pete had responded to someone wanting to buy a cafe in Mallorca and Big Pete had noticed that things were quite quiet, so I thought my post may be helpful to some people !
Nance
p.s, I did think it relevant, no brit tourists, no sale of full english breakfasts !

Hi Nance,

It is relevant and the other day I read an article about the costs of holidays going up drastically and although you might have booked your holiday a year in advance, it doesn't mean you are exempt from the extra charges. Most people will find that in the small print, there is a clause stating that the taxes are subject to increases and you might find yourself with an extra bill prior to take-off. Therefore, some people might have to cancel, which means less people going to the bars and cafes in Spain etc.

I even read that America are suing the UK over these so called "green taxes" because at the end of the day, they are merely another way of exploiting money from honest people.

Hi Michelle & how are you ?
Thank you for the back up......I was beginning to feel a bit of a numpty !
It was just something that I felt would affect many, especially those buying business's abroad.
Even the people I work with are not booking holidays, with exception of one who has use of her sisters holiday home in Spain, so she only has flight costs to worry about. But everyone else is praying for some sunshine here !!!

I'm just glad that we are not there (UK)- certainly not missing the so called summer - still enjoying blue skies and sunshine, although a little bit cooler - but who cares - it is meant to be winter next week...............

Regards from lovely Mar del Plata

Michelle

Reading your post from that perspective...when I first read it I thought you were just discussing holiday choices. My apologies.

If I were looking at a travel-related business, I'd want one in an area that a lot of people can reach cheaply. In the US, I'd want a beach or mountain location near a big city, so that people who might have flown the family somewhere can reach it by car relatively cheaply.
