Default accommodation wanted for few months in france

Hi,

I am after coming out to France in the next 6-7 weeks to stay for a few months.
I am on a years career break after ending a long relationship.

I am after renting either a small gite, room or barn, i really don't mind, and i am also open to different area's too. It would be great to be semi rural as i do like the countryside so would prefer someone peaceful. It would also be great to be near some form of expat community as i'm on my own and am a bit daunted by the prospect of being completely alone in France.

I am fairly quiet, neat and tidy and just after a bit of a retreat to read, walk and relax for a while etc.

I'll be honest i don't know if i'll be staying 2 months or 10 months, i'm really not wanting to commit to contracts, i'd just like to come over to France and see how i like it and go from there.

If there's anyone out there who thinks they can help then i'd love to hear from you

Regard

Karen

Hi, and welcome to the forum.

Sorry about the break-up, but it does sound as if you've found a good way to get through it all. You may have some "challenges" in trying to rent a place for an indefinite term. As I understand it, there's a difference in the laws that govern renting lodging that is furnished vs. unfurnished. Unfurnished lodging is normally rented on a lease basis - and lease terms here normally run for 3 years at a time. (There are provisions for getting out of a lease on 30 days' notice for such things as a "job related move.")

Furnished rentals are treated more like hotel accommodation - so perhaps the gite idea would work best for you.

As to location, there's lots to choose from across France. Many British expats gravitate toward the south, or at least south of the Loire, where the weather is somewhat nicer than in the northern part of France. But Normandy and Brittany have their own expat communities and their own charms.

Is there any part of France you've visited that might suit what you have in mind?
Cheers,
Bev

Hi Bev,
thanks for your reply, much appreciated. I was thinking more south because of the weather. I'm really after finding someone who has accommadation set up for when people visit them and rather than it lie empty for months at a time i thought it would be a way of earning some extra money for someone.

I'm really just after getting away for awhile from the humdrum rat race here, to have a bit of me time.

I do know an english couple from where i live in Kent who are also looking into things where they live in France, so i'm hoping something will come up soon.

Karen
