To me, they will still just be the green thingys, meaninglessly hanging out in my stats.

Its quite simple, and its described in the Karma secion of the information section above

If you appreciate someones post then you click on the scales and it adds to your reputation. As your reputation/karma points build up, eventually you will get another green dot, hence people will be able to tell by looking at a posters greenies how helpful people have found them in the past.

Thanks for the information, but up until yesterday, everybody on this thread had one green thingy until we started clicking and suddenly almost everybody had two. Was it a coincidence that three people were due to get another green thingy at the same point of time?

I hate not knowing the ins and outs of everything.................

I found the reputation thread and feel really bad that I didn't know about the point system before, especially in the light that I have received points myself.

I am sure now that we all know about this, the points will start to accrue much quicker

Michelle

PS Stravinsky - how many points do you receive each time and how many do you need to get a new green thingy?

No moderators don't know everything You described exactly what most of us are - people who respond to others posts and have experienced moving to another country (or countries in some cases). As moderators we also agree to be on the forum quite a lot to be able to answer the posts.

Regards,
Karen

The only sites where reputation really matters are those where people are looking to hire someone to do some on-line work. These usually offer the option of giving negative points, too. You notice them because people post about them.
