Default Urgent help need for Daily Telegraph article

Hi, I'm a journalist researching an article for the Daily Telegraph on expats. I'd like to talk urgently - today or tomorrow - to anyone who has recently, ie within the past year, left the UK to live abroad, or is considering doing it in the very near future because they are unhappy with life in Britain - taxes, crime, climate etc. You can contact me via this forum or on 07710 613966.
Hope someone can help

Hi terry

I am trying my best to get out ,i have the villa in Mallorca and trying to sell the house , then you wont see me for dust

the UK is finished 11 years of Labour has just destroyed it . And day by day it gets worse .

Its simpler to list the only good thing left about Britain ! and that is its Language .. Everything else is a joke from the silly laws ,and rules and regulations to the Tax tax tax on the middle class on everything ..

Years ago we was great Britain now its a Multi racial overpriced dull wet dismal crap hole in my opinion .

I dont see it as leaving Britain its more a case of being driven out by the Government , for some yet to be unearthed master plan .. Which i guess one day in history why it was deliberately ruined shall come to light.

years ago the average Brit would moan about the weather , now the last thing in the conversation is the weather . All day long i hear people wanting to get out as the general concensus amongst middle working class is enough is enough ..

I'm sure the Daily Telegraph would just love to hear a well balanced account of someone leaving the UK.

So ........ the only good thing about the UK now is it's language is it?

hi terry,
Myself and my partner bought a little house in la marina as a holiday/retirement home,(i'm only 35)but due to the impact of the credit crunch and general unrest in the uk we are having to rent our house out and move to La Marina just to keep our heads above water. My partner is a bricklayer , is very hard working , is never sick ,takes few holidays but that doesn't matter because 7 major building firms have stopped building with immediate effect and he has 8 houses left to build and thats it.I'm a horse groom ,which although a skilled job is treated not so in the uk ,so my wages will not cover the bills. It is very sad because we are hard working , never had any handouts but are finding it just too exspensive to stay here, all we want to do is work , pay our bills and have a little left to spend how we wish.My parents have lived in spain for the last 6 years and have nothing really bad to say, of course there are negatives but there seems to be a lot less than staying here.Guess the "great" part of Britian has gone!

Hi all !
It really is a depressing subject isn't it.........we all want to leave the land of our birth, because we can't afford a life here !
Why ? because our "so called peers" have messed it all up.....the old story of the rich get richer and the hard working man gets poorer !
Like Nicci, we both work and can't cover our basic costs each month, constantly robbing pete to pay paul ! and it is getting more difficult every month.
We have absolutely no social life, our spare time (which there is not much of) we spend in the garden or cycling our mountain bikes locally.
It's not life, it's existance and a poor one at that !
I know i am lucky compared to some because for the time being I have a roof over my head. But come january next year we know we will have to sell, our fixed rate ends and thats it for us. There is no way we will rent in this country ,so there is nothing else for it but to keep job hunting abroad and take anything that is going.
All thanks to our government, eh ? Time they actually looked after their own instead of chasing us all away.
Nance

Hi Nicci

But you do realise that building and estate agents over here in Spain are closing down one after the other, building projects have stopped due to no buyers, tradesmen are scrabbling around for work .... Its exactly the same here The banks have cut back on mortgages, property values are falling, and there have even been reports of reposessions in Spain which the banks said they would not do

hi stravinsky,
ta for replying, we know its like that everywhere ,we're not rushing in we've been back and forth for the last 2 years, and we decided that if we're gonna be poor at least the weather and culture is better! as long as we can survive that'll do us,everything seems so much better in the sun and we certainly haven't had that here in england this year! Our town isn't a nice place to be now , you don't want to go out after about 8,theres just no respect ! and we live in a fairly decent place! On paper we need far less to have quality of life in spain than here,if it goes pete tong at least we had a go!!

I would guess that the main reason for this is that the Brits no longer have the money to buy in Spain since the British banks have now stopped lending.
