Hi. I have visited Hong Kong several times this year and like all you lucky expats living there I have fallen in love with the place.
I am a UK resident who currently works as a maintenance electrician for the NHS and have done for 6 years now. Does anybody know of any contacts or vacancies for a similar position in Hong Kong? Many thanks.

Hi Jonathan,

I should read all the new posts before I ask questions. I now know that you are a Brit like me and that you are in HK.

Regards

Michelle

Have you looked in the ads in the local papers? On-line?

And of course, there is the old work permit/visa problem. Back when Hong Kong was a British colony, you would have had an automatic right to work there. I doubt that holds any longer. That's something you should check into first.

I have found a web site (hongkong.recruit.net) which has alot of vacancies for electricians which is very encouraging, although there is a huge difference in salaries compared to the UK. However that wont put me off! I have also discovered that there is a hospital in Hong Kong which has ties with the hospital I work in so I shall be exploring that avenue.
Also I have seen on the immigration web site that they offer a visa with a "quality migrant admission scheme" I score enough points for this but I guess it depends on the demand for your particular skill. If anyone has any experience of this scheme or knows of anyone who has it would be interesting to hear.
Many thanks
