Morning / Evening / Afternoon all!
I was looking for some feedback from you guys. I stumbled across this site after deciding I was moving to Canada in November you have been great so far with help and logistics but my paths has taken a strange twist. I've decided to start a telecoms company up and have been working away at it over the last 2 months. We are now just about ready to start trading but I wanted your opinion. The plan is we will be offering calls to most countries in the world at a fixed rate of 1p per minutes that's mobile to mobile landline to landline basically whatever. The only catch is you will need to initiate the call from a website IE it will call your landline you will pick up and then it will call your desitnation landline and they will pick up. There will be a connection fee per call of around 7p. Would you use it? Any help or comments much appreciated. |

Hi Loki,
7p per call connection sounds high. There is already a service like this (can't remember it's name off hand) and I find Skype much cheaper especially when you can do PC to PC calls for free. Regards, Karen

We're already using a VOIP service which runs 1 euro cent a minute, with no connection fee, and no unusual routine - we make calls from the fixed line phone and they go out on the VOIP line, though you can also use it more or less like Skype (i.e. using a computer with a headset).

There is a fairly new system on the market where-by all calls are FREE via the internet , USA to anywhere and any where to USA etc . Initial cost is $28.00 , then $20.00 a year after that . No special phone , no special numbers , nothing , do not even need to use country dial-up codes . I will look up the particulars and post them for your perusal , Colin

Thanks guys
You are indeed correct the 7p per minute is the connection charge the calls are then 1p per minute. I think where this has benifit is that you dont need to subscribe to a home phone package you use it when you want by topping up credit on the website or just leave it if you dont want any more calls. You can initiate calls from where ever you are via the website and at 1p per minute thats 1.2 euro cents sp cheeper than the 1.7 euro cents over the duration of the call. Does this change anyones mind or help at all? |

Sorry for the delay , look up magicJack - Official Homepage , no fees no connection charges . just plug it in between your phone and computer . Cost nothing to look , oh , by the way , i am in no way attempting to get in the way of an entrenpaneur(?) , i am all for totally free enterprise , just wanted to add a different slant . Colin .
p.s. I have used my own brain-ideas-originality-and fortitude for survival for a multitude of years , hey , i am still here and solvent ( i think ? ) Colin . |

Loki117,
The idea sounds great, and 1p per minute is pretty cheap however the requirement to initiate the call from a website and then reverting to your landline seems odd. If you have an internet connection, by implication you already have VOIP capability. Now, if I could initiate your service say with a cleverly crafted SMS message aimed at the right place that would be great. Or by booking the call in a couple of seconds by dialling an access number to an automated service and then booking the call using DTMF. I realise that this adds potential overhead to the cost of the call, but in the long run, if I'm travelling and I need to call someone, then having to find an internet connection is not always easy (or cheap). |
