Default Paying rent in France

I haven't had any gas (so no hot water or cooker) for over a month in my rented apartment in france, where do i stand legally in terms of withdrawing some of my rent? I have a feeling in the UK it's 25%, is there a similar thing over here? Thanks!

Hi LittleMissFluffy,

Welcome to the forum.

What has the agent said or are you dealing direct with the landlord?

I don't know about the rules in France but I hope you get it sorted soon.

Regards,
Karen

Hi, and welcome to the forums.

Though I live in France, I don't have any experience here with renting property. However, I don't believe you can simply withhold part of your rent. Your first step should be to contact the local mairie (i.e. town hall) to ask what your options are.

I did a quick search on the Service-public website but didn't find anything that quite fit. It may be up to you to contact Gaz de France (or whoever provides your gas service) - the laws about who handles which repairs here are a bit different from what we "anglo-saxons" are used to. But the mairie should be able to point you in the right direction.
Cheers,
Bev
