Default Brit - Want To Move Out - But Where

Hello Expats,
This is my "hello" intro post.

I'm 21 - male
and have wanted to move out of the UK for about 6 months.
Got my passprt through today, so now that idea is one step closer I guess.

I dont live a lavish lifestyle, for a 21 year old you'd be suprised the stuff I dont own and do. I like a good mash-up like anyone does, but it aint the be-all and end all to my life like it seems to be for most of my mates.

So here's the deal ........

I've decided to go for a travel, with the intention of eventually staying somewhere for a few months and then hopefully renting or getting the equilvent of a mortage there.

My requirements are -
- Has to be cheap - around £500 pm rent max.
- I have to have a broadband net connection avaliable in my place of rent etc.
- Has to be a "live-able country" eg somewhere safe(ish) where they dont hate whites
- A country where a majority of the population speaks or understands english. I'm not too keen on learning a new language just to fit in.
- A country where the water is piped and safe, housing is built to a good condition and so on.

Originally I was thinking Bulgaria or Czech Republic, then I heard they were more expensive and "europeanised" now, so then I thought India or Goa ( but go put of by something about Foreign Nationals not being allowed to buy property there ? ).

So now I'm stumpped again - I'm looking for somewhere to go initially as a more of a visit, then to settle down as stated above.

Any and all advice is appreciated.

Thanks everyone.

All the best,
Brian

Hi Brian,

I live in Australia and you won't be able to buy property there either unless it's a completely new property or has special approval (FIRB).

I thought I would mention that in case you were thinking of further afield.

Regards,
Karen

Hi Brian

You dont need a visa for Cyprus its EU

You've really limited your options with the language thing I'm afraid, and you mentioned Bulgaria or Czech republic, but those are ruled out for that reason also.

In Spain there are areas where you can get by without speaking Spanish, and also the rentals here for a house would be in the region of €450 a month

Oh .... and the other forum you posted on .... you posted in the wrong place, and thats why you got the reaction you got. Try the Europe section.

Hi Stravinsky,
Thanks for your reply.

The reason I am not too keen on learning another language is becuase I don't want to add anymore to the stress of travelling around.
Although this could still be a possibility once I've travelled a bit.

That other forums a dissapointment.
I can take a laugh as good as the next man, but when it comes to serious topics I feel there's no need to take the p**s and slate me just because i'm quite open as to which country I visit etc.

Thanks also yummymummy, I was looking on the web last night and I liked the look of this site - (Removed - mod)

Hi Brian if you are thinking of Cyprus no problem with language most speak English. You need to get there and look around and if you like it there a lot of choice rental. I think the best way is to go over winter now till march get a holiday let for a month. That way all bills are in and you are not tied if its not the best area for you, you get good deals on flights and h0liday rental in winter and you are there to go and look at lets.
