Default Help with Jamaica relocation questions

My wife and I and 2 boys are considering Jamaica. Does anyone out there know about the Treasure Beach area in St. Elizabath? Also, what about Norwich outside Port Antonio? There are a couple of places (at least per internet) that could have some interest for us when we visit in January. Crime, distance from any shopping center, etc would be helpful if you are familiar or know anyone who is familiar with these areas. I understand that the north coast of Jamaica is pretty low in crime. Ocho Rios is supposed to be OK. Any help you can give me with info on the country and the areas I mentioned would be helpful.

How do you find the native Jamaicans treat you? Were you faily well accepted when you moved there? Is there a rainy season and dry season like there is in central american countries. Thanks a bunch.

Hi Tigerfan,

I just replied to your other post.

Ochi (as it's known locally ) it a lovely area but loads of tourists. It amazed me the size of the ocean liners and the amount of passengers that got off the ship. Back in 1998 in Ochi if you were white they assumed you were a rich American and the prices suddenly shot up! Not sure what it would be like around there now. Also back in 1998 there was a lot of security around the tourist areas - I know it may have been there for protection but I didn't like the idea that I needed that much protection.

I loved being in Jamaica for all that. It's a beautiful country, with a strong and independent people, and lots of potential.

I also love the Jamaican logo - Out of many, one people.

There is a story that when the slaves were taken there from Africa all the subservient slaves were taken off at the Eastern Caribbean Islands first so only the stubborn ones were left when the boats got to Jamaica. I'm sure that's not where I got my stubborn streak from!

Regards,
Karen
